[1] Albuquerque City Council votes down proposed gross receipts tax increase – Councilor Brook Bassan and Councilor Joaquín Baca proposed a 0.4875% sales tax increase, which they say equals less than half a penny for every dollar spent and would generate approximately $140 million over the course of a year. Councilor Tammy Fieblekorn introduced several amendments, which she said built more accountability and showed fiscal restraint. After several amendments passed and an over hour long debate, the council ultimately voted down the bill.

[2] New Mexico United keeping an open mind on stadium placement – The site of the New Mexico United stadium is still up in the air. In 2021, voters said no to a bond for a stadium near downtown, nearly two years ago an idea to build at Balloon Fiesta Park was announced and now some suggested building the stadium at the state fairgrounds. Team CEO and Owner Peter Tervisani says he’s hoping the community will see them as more than just a soccer team. New Mexico United has committed $30 million in private funding for their stadium. They say if the stadium moves, that money will go with them.

[3] Weather heats up & remains dry, gusty – A warm-up begins Tuesday as high temperatures climb to around 10° above average statewide. Winds may become a little breezy again Tuesday afternoon. Record-breaking heat will start settling into New Mexico on Wednesday as an unusually strong area of high pressure for March begins moving west into the state.
