National Grid: Wind storms knock out power to tens of thousands

National Grid worked to restore several hundred power outages caused by severe weather Tuesday morning in the Capital Region and North Country.

A National Grid said “a windstorm packing gusts exceeding 70 mph in some locations” knocked out power to more than 53,000 customers. The utility warned more high winds through Tuesday afternoon could cause further outages, as well as some forecasted snow in some areas.

As of 9 a.m., the National Grid outage map reported nearly 800 ongoing outages affecting approximately 34,500 customers across upstate New York. By 3 p.m., the company said 890 active outages remained affecting 33,563 customers…
