BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Birmingham City Schools named its teachers of the year Tuesday.
Superintendent Mark Sullivan joined other district leaders in surprising this year’s honorees. April Sibley of Ramsay High School is the Secondary Teacher of the Year. Madison Abney of Hayes K-8 School is the Elementary Teacher of the Year.
“It means the absolute world,” Abney said. “I’ve been at Hayes since I started my teaching career seven years ago in second grade, and it truly means so much to be recognized and have everyone here who’s been a huge part of my journey as a teacher, and I truly can’t believe it.”
