17 Indicted in Massive Meth Distribution Crackdown Across Sacramento Region

A sweeping narcotics investigation in Northern California has led to criminal charges against 17 individuals accused of operating a large-scale drug trafficking network that allegedly moved hundreds of pounds of methamphetamine every month throughout the Greater Sacramento area.

According to prosecutors in Placer County, the defendants face multiple felony charges, including conspiracy and transportation of controlled substances for sale. The case follows an extensive eight-month investigation dubbed “Operation Meltdown,” spearheaded by the Placer County Sheriff’s Office.

Investigation Began With Undercover Purchase

Authorities say the probe started in July 2025 when an undercover detective bought several pounds of methamphetamine from a suspected dealer in North Auburn. That transaction reportedly opened the door to a broader investigation, as detectives began identifying what they described as a coordinated trafficking operation primarily based in Sacramento but supplying narcotics into Placer County.

Over time, investigators allege the organization was distributing nearly 500 pounds of methamphetamine each month across Sacramento and Placer counties.

Multi-Agency Enforcement Sweep
