When the drive-thru Dunkin’ opened a dozen years ago in the shadow of Interstate 81, even the owner knew it almost certainly came with an expiration date.

Maine developer Ed Wolak knew from the outset that anything he put at 110 Almond St. likely would some day come down. He built right in the path of a proposal to tear down I-81 near downtown Syracuse. It’s a part of the highway that nearly crosses over the donut and coffee shop…
