Deceased and alone in a playpen: A mother who, despite having “ample food” at home, allowed her 7-year-old son with special needs to wither away and pass away at the weight of just 19 pounds

A Toledo, Ohio mother has been sentenced to 15 years to life in prison after pleading guilty to the murder of her 7-year-old special needs son, Kristopher Snyder. The tragic incident, which shocked the community, involved the boy’s death from malnutrition and dehydration.

Samantha Hardiman, 30, will face a lengthy prison sentence after admitting her role in the boy’s death, marking the end of a heartbreaking case.

A Neglected Child Found Deceased

Toledo police responded to a distressing call on June 2, 2023, and arrived at the home on Freeman Street to find Kristopher deceased and alone in a playpen. The child was described by officers as being “extremely emaciated” and having pale skin.

Upon further investigation, the Lucas County Coroner confirmed that Kristopher’s death was a homicide caused by malnutrition and dehydration, which were exacerbated by cerebral palsy and epilepsy
