Lockout at BP Whiting refinery in northwest Indiana begins Thursday, company claims no disruptions expected

WHITING, Ind. (CBS) BP, which operates an oil refinery in northwest Indiana will lockout union workers starting Thursday, according to multiple published reports, including CBS News.

The United Steelworkers Union represents hundreds of employees at the BP Whiting refinery and has been in contract negotiations with the company. The union rejected BP’s latest contract offer on Tuesday, prompting the oil giant to initiate the lockout, effective at 11:59 p.m. Wednesday, March 18.

The union claims BP wants to eliminate more than 100 jobs, but salaries and install AI surveillance systems.

The company claims the lockout won’t affect operations at the refinery. If there is a disruption in operations, it could cause gas prices to rise even further…
