LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) — Residents are being urged to stay alert following reports of scam phone calls from individuals falsely claiming to be law enforcement officers.
According to authorities, the caller may:
- Claim to be a Deputy with the Lafayette City Marshal’s Office
- Say you have an outstanding warrant or legal issue
- Demand immediate payment to “resolve” the situation
Here is a list of what to not do:
- Do not provide personal or financial information
- Do not send money or make any payments
- Hang up immediately if you receive a suspicious call
