A car passenger allegedly took control of the steering wheel of a 2023 Land Rover and intentionally crashed into a Duson police cruiser on I-10 East. Sergeant Calvin Francis was reportedly injured, and is reported to be in stable condition. The passenger faces charges for attempted first-degree murder.
The Duson Police Department stated that Sgt. Francis was driving to Baton Rouge on I-10 East near mile marker 153 in Port Allen when his police cruiser was hit by another vehicle. This forced his police cruiser into a concrete wall at the base of the Mississippi River bridge.
The West Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office is conducting the investigation. It now appears that the suspect, 42-year-old John Cuevas of Madison, Mississippi, had been arrested earlier, and this incident was likely a deliberate attempt to crash into a police cruiser…
