Marengo woman sentenced to seven years for DUI

The McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office announced that Kathie L. Zaremba, 62, of Marengo, Illinois, was sentenced to seven years in the Illinois Department of Corrections for Aggravated Driving Under the Influence. The sentence was issued by Judge Mark Gerhardt on March 17, 2026, following a guilty plea.

The case began on March 15, 2024, when Marengo Police Sergeant Boeckh responded to a complaint on the 900 block of Franks Road about a possibly intoxicated driver in a gray Jeep. Zaremba was arrested after showing signs of impairment. She had at least three prior DUI convictions, making the charge a Class 2 felony. Three days later, she was involved in a head-on crash on Huntley Road in Crystal Lake, where her blood alcohol level was 0.10. The case was prosecuted by Assistant State’s Attorney Desiree Sierens
