Missouri attorney general charges Greene County convenience store managing officer over illegal gaming machines

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) – Missouri Attorney General Catherine Hanaway announced Wednesday that her office has filed two felony counts of first-degree promoting gambling and a civil action against a Greene County convenience store accused of housing 12 illegal slot machines.

The attorney general filed charges against the managing officer of the Briarwood One Stop in Brookline, Himanshu Patel, following an investigation by the Missouri State Highway Patrol Division of Drug and Crime Control. The attorney general’s office worked with the Greene County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office to bring the criminal charges and civil suit.

The charges allege that the business allowed illegal gambling on its premises, in violation of Missouri’s Merchandising Practices Act and nuisance laws.
