WEST JORDAN, Utah (ABC4) — The driver convicted of killing a 13-year-old in a hit-and-run in 2022 was denied parole on Tuesday after his parole hearing three weeks ago, something the victim’s family is calling a “relief.”
13-year-old Eli Mitchell was riding his bike home from a local grocery store on April 26, 2022 when he was struck and hit in a crosswalk by Mason Ohms. Ohms continued driving, with Mitchell’s bike wedged beneath his car, and then he made a U-turn, removed the bike, and discarded it.
Mitchell was taken to the hospital, where he died of his injuries. Ohms was later arrested by police, who reported smelling alcohol on his breath. He pleaded guilty to second-degree felony criminal homicide, automobile homicide, and leaving the scene of an accident involving death…
