City Bus driver in fatal Kalihi crash identified by Medical Examiner

HONOLULU (Island News) – The Honolulu Medical Examiner’s (ME) Office identified the man who died following a bus crash that occurred in the Kalihi area on Tuesday morning, March 17, 2026.

The ME’s Office identified the 59-year-old man as James Oda. The cause and manner of his death has not been released at this time.

The City Bus driver, Oda, lost control of the vehicle on N. Vineyard Blvd for reasons that remain unclear. The bus veered into the center median and struck a tree.

He was initially brought to a hospital in critical condition but later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead the same day.
