Former Broadalbin-Perth coach, teacher’s assistant charged with raping child

AMSTERDAM — A former high school coach and teacher’s assistant has been accused of sexually assaulting a student while he worked at the Broadalbin-Perth Central School District, State Police said.

Jared T. Baldizon, 27, of Albany, was charged Monday with felony third-degree rape and third-degree criminal sexual act. He most recently worked as an assistant coach of the varsity boys’ lacrosse team at the Greater Amsterdam School District, where he has been placed on administrative leave, troopers said.

Baldizon had sex with the child in the spring of 2024 in Amsterdam after meeting them while working as a teacher’s assistant at Broadalbin-Perth, troopers said. The child was under the age of 17.
