Man gets nearly 2 decades for shooting on Union Ave that killed bystander

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A prison term of 18 years and eight months was handed down to a man who meant to shoot his daughter’s boyfriend — but hit and killed a bystander instead.

Vernon McCollum was sentenced Wednesday morning after pleading no contest last month to voluntary manslaughter and attempted murder, according to court records.
