Ann Arbor making big purchases to launch new sustainable energy utility

ANN ARBOR, MI — The sustainable energy utility Ann Arbor voters approved in 2024 to supplement DTE Energy service with local renewable energy is getting ready to launch.

City Council voted unanimously Monday night, March 16, to approve $2 million for equipment purchases for a pilot launch of the city-run utility in the Bryant neighborhood.

That includes $1.5 million for battery energy storage system equipment from California-based FranklinWH Energy Storage Inc. and $500,000 for solar energy equipment from Michigan Solar Solutions Inc…
