Berkeley County stolen vehicle pursuit ends with PIT maneuver Tuesday

BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. (WCIV) — A Ladson man is in custody after reportedly leading deputies on a cross-county pursuit in a stolen vehicle, which ended with a PIT maneuver sending him into a ditch after he’d already driven over multiple tire deflation devices.

The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office said that deputies responded to assist the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office with a pursuit that began on Highway 78 as the driver, identified as 37-year-old Ronald Lee Bowers II, had continued into Berkeley County. Multiple tire deflation devices, also known as “stop sticks,” were deployed but Bowers continued without stopping, according to BCSO.

Berkeley County Sheriff Duane Lewis authorized his deputies to utilize the Pursuit Intervention Technique (PIT) to force the vehicle, which was confirmed to have been stolen out of North Charleston, off of the roadway and into a ditch, according to the sheriff’s office. With the stolen vehicle disabled, deputies took Bowers into custody without further incident…
