DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – A former medical practice bookkeeper has been sentenced to 30 months in prison and will pay nearly $800k in restitution after her conviction of aggravated theft.
The 45-year-old woman, Jamie Grant, was the manager of Nephrology Associates of Dayton in 2019. She handled all the bookkeeping and banking.
It wasn’t until she took a different position in Tennessee that her bookkeeping discrepancies on office credit card statements were noticed by the business.
Local woman pleads guilty to $750K theft charge
It filed a report to the sheriff’s office, which led to an investigation. Officials said a forensic accounting firm audited the medical practice’s accounts, going back to Grant’s first day.
- Officials found she stole nearly $700k business. Some of the methods she used included:
- Including the payer on her personal credit cards.
- Using business credit cards for personal purchases.
- Making illegitimate payroll payments to herself.
