Future nurse Rasia Graves uses family’s medical challenges to excel in medical field

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Rasia Graves is on the verge of achieving her dream of helping others in the medical field. Her journey, inspired by her family’s experiences, is set to reach a milestone in May when she graduates with a nursing degree from Tennessee State University.

Nearly 10 years ago, Graves expressed her ambition to change the world by becoming a neurologist. Her parents, Toni and Robin Graves, shared that her drive was sparked during a family discussion about Robin’s diagnosis with multiple sclerosis. “When I was told I had MS and we shared it with the kids, you could see it in her face,” Robin Graves said. “She knew there was nothing she could do at that age. Something came to her and she said, ‘I gotta help mom.'”

Graves’ sister also faced medical challenges with diabetes, further motivating her to pursue a career in healthcare. “Seeing them in pain was challenging as is, but when they had those really bad days, there was always a nurse around who could brighten it,” Graves said…
