KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — After more than 20 years, the seal of the Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office is no longer at the Kalamazoo Battle Creek International Airport.
Now, existing security guards and airport staff will carry out some of the work done by the deputies, according to AZO’s director.
A small team of county deputies had been tasked with patrolling the airport’s perimeter and standing by during departures and arrivals since 9/11. But there wasn’t much of a formal agreement. That led airport leaders to launch a request for proposals from other agencies in December after the unit’s sergeant retired.
