Marietta maps out $965K vision for parks, tourism and remembrance

MARIETTA — The Marietta City Council has approved a plan to spend $965,000 supporting parks and tourism projects and an installation in remembrance of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

The money comes from leftover funds from the city’s 3% vehicle rental tax. Funds from the tax can only be used for tourism, visitor experience, parks and civic commemoration purposes.

The plan outlines two pots of funding: one for parks, tourism and capital improvement projects, totaling just over $865,000, and the other for a field of flags installation commemorating 9/11 and classroom flags celebrating America’s 250th anniversary…
