Man accused of smashing cameras in Saraland jail for the third time

MOBILE, Ala. (NBC 15) — A Saraland man has been charged with ripping out jail security cameras for the third time in six years. Michael Cook is charged with two counts of destruction of state property by an inmate. He was booked into Mobile Metro Jail Tuesday afternoon on the felony charges after Saraland police say he broke a security camera and a light fixture at their jail. Sgt. Devon O’Shea says last month the 48-year-old tore down another camera at the jail when he was brought in on a public intoxication charge. Cook was also charged with destroying state property in 2020. The indictment states he destroyed a camera in the Saraland jail. He pleaded guilty to criminal mischief 2nd in 2022 and was sentenced to one year of formal probation, which was converted to informal probation four…..
