Rutherford County Library Board moves over 190 books to adult section after heated debate

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WKRN) — The Rutherford County Library Board voted Monday night to relocate more than 190 books from the children’s sections to the adult section of its libraries, a decision that came after hours of emotional testimony.

The move follows a letter sent earlier this year by the Tennessee Secretary of State calling on libraries across the state to conduct “age appropriateness” reviews of youth sections. The office later clarified that the request was part of an ongoing process rather than a mandate.

During the meeting at the Rutherford County Courthouse in downtown Murfreesboro, board members voted to move all of the challenged books out of the children’s areas and into the adult section of the library system…
