School community mourns death of Staten Island boy, 12

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — A 12-year-old Richmond Preparatory Charter School student died March 12 after suffering an asthma attack that led to cardiac arrest, according to his family.

Gavin Garcia, who was affectionately known by his family nickname “Bobbles,” began feeling ill while attending the New Springville school. The school nurse called to notify his parents about his condition, and his father picked him up from school, according to a GoFundMe page established by the family.

“Gavin had no fever, just a little wheezing and that he didn’t feel well, so his dad picked him up from school,” the GoFundMe reads…
