Bay Beach Wildlife Sanctuary issues plea as Blizzard Elsa impacts birds, American Robins

GREEN BAY (WLUK) — If you thought Blizzard Elsa was tough on people, imagine what it was like being a tiny bird, dealing with the winter elements.

Experts say the storm had an impact on some flyers, like the American Robin, but the Bay Beach Wildlife Sanctuary says its web-wide warning may have helped.

“Knowing that Blizzard Elsa was coming up, we actually put out a warning and a heads up to people on our social media. ‘Hey, be ready for the birds’ and just talking about how to help. Especially the migrating birds and the robins and the red-winged blackbirds. Yes, they’re used to Wisconsin, but they’re not used to this much snow all at once, right when they return,” said Lori Bankson, Bay Beach Wildlife Sanctuary curator of animals…
