Church Point man found guilty of murdering Notre Dame High student in 2021

RAYNE, La. (NEWS 15) — An Acadia Parish jury convicted a man of murdering a high school student in 2021, according to District Attorney Don Landry.

He said Scott Cooper, 45, of Church Point, was found guilty of second-degree murder for shooting and killing Notre Dame High School student Garrison Gautreaux, 17, on May 16, 2021.

He added Cooper shot Gautreaux while he was sitting in his pickup truck outside a house on North Polk Street in Rayne after winning the high school baseball state championship.
