Driver strikes power pole in SE Portland, knocking out power for hundreds

PORTLAND, Ore. (KPTV) – A driver struck a power pole in the Mount Tabor area of southeast Portland early Wednesday morning, shearing the pole in half and knocking out power to hundreds of people.

The crash happened at about 3:25 a.m. near Southeast Division Street and Southeast 60th Avenue. Police said officers found a crashed car on fire with damaged power poles nearby. The fire was put out by firefighters.

According to police, witnesses reported seeing one or two people leave the car and the area after the crash. Officers did get in touch with the car’s owner and determined she was not driving at the time.

As of 7 a.m., 271 Portland General Electric customers were without power…
