11 horses, cow rescued after manure up to 6 feet deep found on Schaghticoke farm

Schaghticoke, NY (WRGB) — New York State Police arrested a Mechanicville man this month after investigators said a cow and multiple horses were found living in deplorable conditions in Schaghticoke, including a manure buildup so deep that some animals had to be extricated from their stalls.

On March 5, 2026, State Police of Brunswick arrested 35-year-old Edward Madlin, of Mechanicville, New York, on 12 counts of Agriculture & Market 353, Overdriving, Torturing and Injuring Animals: Failure to Provide Proper Sustenance, a class A misdemeanor.

State police said they received information on Jan. 8, 2026, that a cow and multiple horses were being kept in deplorable conditions with insufficient food and water on a property on Route 40 in Schaghticoke. The animals were reportedly found to have insufficient food, water and hoof care, along with unsanitary living conditions…
