Two hikers from Syracuse attempted to tackle Nye Mountain in the Adirondack High Peaks region on March 14. But the pair managed to get only 1.5 miles up the trail from Indian Pass Brook when their digital navigation device died.
At a loss for how to continue without the device, the hikers decided to turn back but couldn’t determine the right direction to the trailhead.
Two New York State Department of Environmenal Conservation forest rangers hiked in and guided the hikers back to the Adirondak Loj before dark.
