Community pushback continues as Red Clay weighs future of McKean High School

The Red Clay Consolidated School District’s push to switch McKean High School into a vo-tech/college hybrid school is still being met with community pushback less than 18 months before its scheduled opening.

Red Clay has announced they will flip the most successful of their three traditional high schools into the McKean Innovation Campus in 2027, saying they will be focused on Career & Technical Education along with early college credit opportunities.

Red Clay is Delaware’s largest school district in terms of student population, but it has managed to dilute itself over the years by authorizing two charter schools, Delaware Military Academy and the Charter School of Wilmington, plus two magnet schools, Cab Calloway School of the Arts and Conrad Schools for Sciences…
