Effort to rename Cesar Chavez Street underway after allegations of abuse

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Allegations of abuse against labor and farmworkers’ rights activist Cesar Chavez prompted swift action in Austin to analyze the naming of streets, memorials and celebrations in his honor.

In a statement posted on social media, Austin leaders said, in part, “The center of our city and the heart of East Austin should reflect our commitment to justice. We support the renaming of Cesar Chavez Street and will begin the discussion with the community at the forefront.”
