Homicide investigation underway after shooting in Des Moines’ East Village neighborhood

DES MOINES, Iowa — The Des Moines Police Department is investigating a shooting that left one person dead early Thursday morning in the East Village neighborhood.

Police responded to the area in the 1300 block of Des Moines Street just before 2:00 a.m. after receiving a 911 call reporting someone had been shot. Sgt. Paul Parizek, Public Information Officer for the Des Moines Police Department, said when officers arrived on the scene, they located an adult male who was deceased.

One killed during crash involving a wrong-way driver on I-35, WDM police say

Police found evidence that led them to a potential suspect vehicle and suspects. That vehicle was spotted by an officer just after 3:00 a.m. near the Des Moines Police Department headquarters. Sgt. Parizek said two people were detained without incident, and a handgun was recovered.

No charges have been filed at this time, and the investigation continues…
