As we get closer to April 1st, residents of Lubbock, and all throughout Texas should prepare for a new law to take effect. The new is targeted at those families on food stamps also known as SNAP.
During the last Texas Legislative session, Texas lawmakers passed Senate Bill 379. It was an effort to Make Texas Healthy Again. The bill banned certain foods and drinks from being purchased through SNAP benefits.
Starting April 1, Texans will no longer be able to use SNAP benefits to purchase sodas and other sugary drinks. Food stamps will also not be banned from purchasing candy. According to the Texas Tribune any sweetened drink that has 5 grams or more of added sugar will be banned…
