UW Health doctor creates adaptive crayons for people with disabilities

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) – A UW Health doctor turns old crayons into new possibilities for children and adults with developmental disabilities.

Dr. Amber McKenna first got the idea in 2022 when she was in her first residency program at Louisiana State University Health Shreveport. There, she and her best friend would create fun-shaped crayons as an activity to do with her kids.

With hundreds of leftover crayons, her friend suggested giving them to kids at the hospital where she was doing a pediatrics residency. The hospital team in Louisiana loved the idea so much, she left her supplies there when she moved to Wisconsin…
