TRUCKEE, Calif. — What began as a quiet Sunday afternoon walk turned into an unexpected wildlife rescue after Sara Spurlo encountered an injured bald eagle along a nearby Truckee trail.
Spurlo said she and the bird startled each other when she first came across it. But instead of taking flight, the eagle struggled to get off the ground.
With hikers passing through the busy trail, Spurlo quickly grew concerned that the bird was injured. So, she and another hiker began calling any wildlife or animal agencies they could think of, but reaching help on a Sunday afternoon proved difficult…
