AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – Illegal dumping in Augusta is draining resources and frustrating neighborhoods as the Marshal’s Office handles hundreds of cases each year with a fraction of the staff it once had.
The Marshal’s Office told commissioners it handled 691 cases in 2024 and 673 in 2025. So far in 2026, it has worked 126 cases. Officials say they are on track to handle roughly 700 cases this year.
But only a small share of those cases make it to magistrate court. In 2024, 19 cases reached court. In 2025, 28 cases did. Officials say most offenders never face serious consequences…
