Tourism groups between Nelson County and Fauquier County will soon have a new way of identifying their geographic region now that the Virginia Tourism Corporation has signed off on a plan to create an 11th marketing region.
“The Virginia Piedmont region was proposed through a collaborative petition from local destination marketing organizations (DMOs) seeking to establish a tourism region comprised of the same eleven localities as GO Virginia Region 9, an economic development initiative that encourages collaboration among local governments, higher education, private industry and workforce,” reads an information release sent out on March 17.
The new region will officially go into effect on January 1, 2027. Localities in the south are currently part of the Central Virginia region whereas others further up U.S. 29 are in Northern Virginia…
