Teen charged as adult for drugs, weapon possession

Two teenagers face charges after they were found in possession of drugs and a stolen weapon following a traffic stop in Hall County Wednesday.

The Hall County Sheriff’s Office said deputies conducted a traffic stop on Old Athens Road around 1:20 p.m., after they observed the driver of a passenger vehicle fail to maintain his lane of travel. The driver of the vehicle was a 16-year-old male. The deputies identified the passenger as Jessie Josue Zendejas, 17, of Gainesville.

The teens exited the vehicle at the request of deputies, but both reportedly attempted to run from the scene as they were being questioned, HCSO said.

While the two suspects were detained, deputies allegedly located a firearm (Glock 23) in Zendejas’s left pant leg and a THC vape in one of his pockets. Further investigation determined the firearm had been reported stolen. Deputies then conducted a probable cause search of the vehicle and located a second firearm (Glock 19) under the driver’s seat.
