MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – A jury on Thursday convicted a man of felony murder and first-degree assault in a deadly shooting in 2024.
It happened in April of that year in the 1600 block of Prairie Avenue. The jury determined that Grant Lavarus Myles, 25, of Mobile, was responsible for killing 26-year-old Jaylin Craig and inflicting life-altering injuries on a 15-year-old boy. Mobile County Circuit Judge Ben Brooks scheduled sentencing for next month. Myles faces 20 years to life in prison.
According to testimony, officers found Craig in the driver’s seat of a vehicle and the injured teenager in a second vehicle.
Prosecutors alleged that Myles and another man, Kalvin Matthews Jr., fired the shots. Matthews and a third defendant, Martrese Myers, have pleaded not guilty and have trials scheduled for later this year.
