66-Year-Old Faces Assault, Gun Charges After WeGo Bus Stop Shooting

Specialized Investigations Division detectives, on March 18, charged Harvey L. Mays, 66, with aggravated assault and felony gun possession for wounding a 51-year-old man at a WeGo bus stop in the 800 block of Murfreesboro Pike.

The victim said he was at the bus stop preparing to board when he was pushed from behind by Mays. He said he turned around and pushed Mays back, after which Mays shot him one time in the chest.

The bus driver said when she pulled up and opened the doors, two men were fighting over who would board first. When she saw that Mays had pulled a gun, she closed the doors and drove a short distance down Murfreesboro Pike. South Precinct officers responded quickly to the call, rendered aid to the victim, and spotted Mays walking on Plus Park Boulevard. He was detained and disarmed of the pistol in his waistband…
