News10NBC Investigates: Humana drops Rochester Home Care Companies from its network

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Rochester home care companies are no longer in-network for those with Humana Medicare Advantage plans and families who rely on that care are panicked about what this could mean for their loved ones. Primary care offices and hospitals are also on edge about how it impacts the entire local health care system.

Rochester-area hospitals are packed to the brim and over capacity on most days. Part of the problem is they can’t find enough rehab centers and nursing homes to discharge patients to which is why home care is crucial.

Chris Thompson is a double amputee on dialysis with serious chronic health conditions.  His partner says the stress of this insurance situation is weighing on him. “I think a lot of it had to do with why he had to go back into the hospital yesterday,” Tara Pios tells News10NBC…
