Project Jupiter to generate more power than El Paso Electric plants

The mammoth Project Jupiter data centers complex being constructed for Oracle Corp., in the Santa Teresa, New Mexico area, on El Paso’s west edge, is to generate more power than El Paso Electric’s four power plants combined.

That’s what the air-quality permit applications with the New Mexico Environment Department, or NMED, show for the project’s two so-called microgrids.

Project Jupiter is one of seven data centers campuses being built for the $500 billion Stargate Project, a joint venture of OpenAI (creator of one of AI’s newest tools, ChatGPT), Austin-based Oracle, and SoftBank, a Japanese investment firm.
