Qury fire at 44% containment

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) – The South Dakota Department of Public Safety has an update on the Qury fire near Custer.

The fire currently stands at 9,161 acres and is 44% contained.

Critical fire weather is expected, with temperatures reaching 72 degrees, wind speeds of up to 10-15 mph, and extremely low humidity. Despite the weather conditions, control lines are holding, and firefighters are confident the work completed over the last few days will continue to hold.

Evacuations underway near Rapid City as wildfire burns

Firefighters are continuing mop-up throughout the perimeter of the fire and are monitoring pockets of unburned fuels. Restoration of dozer lines is continuing in the area.

The following roads are closed in the area: Lower French Creek Road from Highway 16A to Highway 87, Hazelrodt, Glen Erin, Flynn Creek, Herbert Draw and Highway 87 from 16A to the north boundary of Wind Cave National Park (the park remains open)…
