New Franklin Councilman stands firm on no 300-foot rule for short-term rentals

NEW FRANKLIN — As the only piece of legislation on the March 4 New Franklin City Council agenda, a vote on a pending ordinance to regulate short-term rentals in the city was once again delayed.

Councilman Devin Allman (Ward 3), who chairs the Council committee charged with drafting the legislation, outlined several areas of the proposed ordinance that have been updated following a review by city legal counsel Irving Sugarman.

These changes relate to transfers of property titles and property owners with prior criminal convictions. One stipulation still not addressed in the ordinance, however, is a requirement that short-term rental units — defined as residences rented for fewer than 30 days — be located at least 300 feet from other short-term rentals…
