Abby Huisman, a Robinson High School senior, was recognized as a finalist for the 2026 Military Child of the Year Award for the U.S. Air Force. The placement is rewarded with a monetary prize and recognition as a finalist for Military Child of the Year.
Despite not winning the competition, Huisman is grateful to have made it as far as she did. “It’s a huge honor to be selected as a finalist,” she said. “I was surprised and humbled because I know there are so many kids just like me who applied.”
The competition is run by Operation Homefront, a national organization that provides support and relief for military families. It recognizes outstanding young people ages 13 to 18 for their academic rigor, leadership qualities, and the impact they have made on their schools and communities…
