13-year-old shot in the back in Schenectady, underwent surgery

Schenectady, NY (WRGB) — A 13-year-old was shot in the back Wednesday evening in Schenectady, prompting an active investigation by the Schenectady Police Department’s Youth Aid Bureau and Major Crimes Units.

Police said officers were dispatched at about 8:18 p.m. March 19, 2026, to the 500 block of Summit Avenue after a report of a person who had been shot. Officers found a 13-year-old with a gunshot wound to the back and provided first aid until emergency medical personnel arrived.
