Andersons Pie Co. keeps family pecan pie tradition alive in Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) – A family restaurant that became a Charlotte neighborhood landmark is being remembered on Pi Day and beyond for a recipe that has stayed essentially the same for decades: pecan pie.

The roots go back to 1946, when brothers Jimmie, Pete and Bill Anderson opened the Mercury Sandwich Shop in the Elizabeth area of Charlotte. The business later became Anderson’s Restaurant, known for Southern breakfast dishes, fried chicken, and a signature dessert the family would eventually label “The World’s BEST Pecan Pie.” The restaurant remained in its original location for years before it closed in 2006.
