‘A sense of relief’: Suspect in Christmas Eve 2020 shooting in Lakeland pleads guilty to federal gun charge

LAKELAND, Fla. (WFLA) – A Lakeland woman is hoping a guilty plea is just the start when it comes to justice for her family.

Taqiy Lewis, 27, of Lakeland, pleaded guilty in federal court to possessing a firearm and ammunition as a convicted felon in connection with a shooting, according to the U.S. attorney’s office.

He is a suspect in the shooting that injured Shawanda Lamones, her husband, Ralph Lamones Jr. and 13-year old daughter, A’Sasha Lamones, and killed her mother, Maebelle Cooper, 70, on Christmas Eve 2020…
