Franklin County approves $4 million in funding to help upgrade elementary school

FRANKLIN COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) – After initial 2026-27 fiscal budget discussions during Tuesday night’s Franklin County Board of Supervisors meeting, the board planned to talk with Franklin County Public Schools (FCPS) about its budget.

Instead, the meeting got side-tracked and the two sides spent their hour together addressing a pressing need at Lee M. Waid Elementary School.

“There were a lot of safety concerns with the old boiler and the old pipes at Lee M. Waid,” FCPS Superintendent Kevin Siers said. “We had an incident earlier this year where a pipe rusted through and steam was leaking into the building, and that was very costly to fix.”…
