Glendale strengthens ADA and Accessibility Program

The Glendale City Council recently reviewed its programs and resources available to residents under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) — ensuring alignment with federal standards. In light of that goal, the city of Glendale has undertaken a three-phased approach, divided into Planning and Foundation, Implementation and Monitoring and Updates.

“As a city, we are approaching ADA compliance using a phase framework,” ADA and Accessibility Program Officer Tabitha Perry said. “This structure helps ensure work is organized, manageable and aligned with available resources.”

ADA Title II outlines various actions that cities are required to complete to meet federal standards. Designating an ADA Coordinator, establishing and maintaining an ADA Transition Plan, Identifying and prioritizing any barriers, providing accessible public information and demonstrating ongoing progress are among many of the steps mandated in the legislation. Actions Glendale has taken as part of its current focus on Phase 1 include designating Perry as the ADA coordinator and updating various policies and procedures.
